Hi,

Just wanted to share this with you, just got the results for my wife's IELTS test, she scored

Reading 9
Listening 9
Speaking 8
Writing 8
Overall 8.5

How many points will we be able to claim on the basis of these scores?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Shehzad007,

As far as writing goes, she really did not do anything special other than try out a couple of the exercises from the British Council Library site (Road to IELTS) and also from some of the material available through BCL individual membership. She gave more importance to the listening test as it was a bit tricky. In case you have the time to prepare then i believe that taking the BCL membership really helps as it provides access to a wide range of material available for practice. Hope this helps.

Those are great scores, I got 8 and did take time to prepare. Was English her first language?

I agree that listening is tricky as I went out of sync. and had to spend 5 minutes analyzing the question than just ticking it off.

I suggest the Cambridge ESOL series of books they work well with the companion CD's to practice. Also remember the 2 essays that they ask you to write can be tricky. In my case it was a formal correspondence and an essay on whether immigration was a boon or bane ( ironical :D )

Thanks rk2009. Since we are Indians, English is not considered our first language. She did take the effort to prepare, especially for the listening test which we both found to be tricky not tough. You are right, the cambridge ESOL series of books were the ones which she used predominantly. Just hoping that the long term goal of immigration works out as well as the IELTS test did.
