Hey all,

My IEC visa expires on the 4th of January, so real close. My employer has been going through the process of LMIA and I have a number and all that is good. I've just on Thursday completed my end of applying for a TFWP visa which is also being processed and underway.

My question is about if I have implied status or not. I've read that it should've been done at least 30 days prior but unfortunately it was not possible. I have filled out the form imm5710e (Application to change conditions, extend my stay or remain in Canada as a worker) if that is of any help to anyone. All I want to know, is that if all of that stuff has been completed and is being processed, can I continue to work under implied status of my IEC or do I need to leave Canada and re-enter as a visitor?

If I have to stop working it will only be for a month or two at the most and I don't want to have to pay for tickets to New Zealand if I can go to the border and re-enter as a visitor.

Thanks for the help and merry Christmas.

Joe

You get implied status as a "visitor" but you should stop work when your IEC expires. IEC is non-extendable, so what you are requesting is a brand new closed work permit and not an extension of an existing one.

Okay thank you very much.
I figured as much but I wasn’t aware that implied status was available outside of PR until recently.
So having implied status as a visitor means that I will not have to go to the border and re-enter as a visitor? Because that will be super nice lol.
