Hello I've got a POE letter after being accepted for the Iec program.

The POE letter says I quote "work up to four years in Canada cumulatively"

This sounds like a 4 year permit not the 2 year with the option to extend to 4 years like I thought it was.

If it was a 2 year permit because I'm sure some of you will say it is surely the wording would be "work up to 2 years cumulatively over 4 years" (assuming if you could stay any longer than 2 years)

Also with this wording it sounds like anytime not spent working can be claimed as to extend the permit. So if I landed got my permit then didn't find work for a couple of months, this would actually get added onto my length or

Its just mighty confusing to me.

It's a two year permit. The four year disclaimer is standard wording on all temporary work permits.

What country are you from? I'm not sure there are any countries left that can do four years on IEC anymore?

The only time I have seen time credited onto an IEC permit is when a person broke their leg very early on in the first work year and left the country because of it. I'm not sure that you would be able to get time added if you stayed in country, it is a working holiday permit afterall.

an IEC permit starts the day you activate it and expires on a fixed date in the future. Just because someone either cannot find work or does a return trip home the permit will still expire on the expiry date regardless. As previous poster said it is a working holiday visa with work being secondary to help fund it.

No - you can't extend or add time on. Use it or lose it.

Next time don't be shy: ask for french fries and your favorite drink, along with your preferred length for the work permit and the myriad other utopian requests, such as stopping the clock any time your majesty feels like taking a trip home.

Next time why don't you just not comment how about that? Seriously I can understand why there are some odd unhelpful people on these forums, because they probably moved to Canada because there Xenophobic racists.

I'm coming to spend 2 years in Canada, I needed to plan more if it was 4 years. I am so sorry for using this forum for the purpose of what it is meant to be here for. My question got answered. Shame you couldn't resist the urge to be a sarcastic obnoxious individual.

You sir have too much time on your hands, or your very sad. ;) :)

Kind Regards.
