Hello everyone,

I am Canadian-Egyptian and I need help with the different names system in Egypt and Canada. In Canada, I go by the first and last name (fourth name), While on my Egyptian ID I go by 5 names in a row. So now I am applying to sponsor my spouse for residency, but I am confused how should I write my names and my husband name on the applications forms, which only provide space for family name and given name.

For me, from Malaysia I don't have a last name. It's only my father's name. In my passport I have 'my name' then 'binti' ( which basically mean daughter of) then ' my father's name which has 2 parts' . In the form I just put my name and my father's name without putting 'binti'. When they process it, my father's name is my last name and they put hyphen to combine the two part to become one. I don't know how it work in your case..maybe any egyptian can help?

In Egypt we have names to the fourth or fifth grandfather in a row. My family name in Canada isn't the fifth name on my Egyptian ID. Thanks for answering me.
