I was used to thinking that packing for a flight was all the process of putting everything into one suitcase. It changed once I started planning a trip abroad after realizing that luggage regulations can have more impact than I thought.

When I was researching Turkish Airlines Baggage Fees I started looking more closely at the allowance for baggage associated to the itinerary. Things such as the route, kind of fare, class and weight or quantity of bags will affect the allowance that is allowed for a specific booking.

One thing I've found to be helpful is to check the baggage details prior to packing, rather than waiting until the time of departure. It is a good idea to weigh the suitcase at home, and then examining its dimensions allows you to rearrange everything as needed.

I'm trying to leave a bit of extra room in case I purchase something on the travel. When traveling internationally I'd rather keep important documents, medications electronic equipment, and other valuables in my luggage so that they are easily available.

My checklist for preparing for the trip is in the process of being:

  • Find out the baggage allowance applicable to your trip.
  • Make sure you weigh the suitcase before leaving home.
  • Verify the bag's dimensions
  • Check any additional conditions that may apply to baggage
  • Keep important items accessible
for frequent travellers When do you typically make sure you have checked baggage requirements - prior to making reservations, after booking or before you begin packing?

Have you ever needed to repack at the airport due to your luggage was heavier or bigger than you anticipated?
