I have a sudden situation where I have to leave my apartment in Montreal in a week. What are my options? I am thinking to post ad online to sublet it, but I am afraid I wouldn't be able to find someone to sublet it to them in a week. I saw ads on Craigslist in Montreal that have been posted 19 days ago, which wasn't encouraging. What other options do I have in case this failed?

You might have to discuss this with your landlord, hoping to break the lease.

What do you mean break the lease? Would I be paying any penalties if they agreed to break it?

May or may not be any penalties if your landlord agrees to break the lease. You have to explain your reason. Furthermore, some landlords rather want to get a new tenant by themselves.

It allows. But my concern is what if I cannot a new tenant in 7 days.

They you are on the hook for the payments or need to come to an agreement with the landlord to end the lease early. See the link I provided above.

I believe this is the second time in recent weeks individuals have posted questions on what their responsibilities are when either signing a lease to rent their place to tenants or in this case being the tenant .
If you’re not aware of responsibilities when one signs a lease , you probably want to have had a lawyer go over it with you prior to signing .
It’s a legal document, with ramifications if broken

Hello,

I'm interested as I'm looking for something next week. Let me know what the apartment size is and how much is the rent, and how is it possible to contact you.
