I am an International Student in Canada, I got married before couple of months and now I want to sponsor my wife. I wanted to know what best I can do? Will she get approval for the visa?
How much money balance I have to show in Canada and how much balance she should show in India?
What are other requirement like any special documents that is needed from my side or from my wife's side to be submitted to immigration office.

1. If you are applying for a Work Permit for her:
- You will have to show that you have enough money to support her while she is in Canada (stated as CA$4000).
- You will also have to show marriage records.

2. If you are applying for a TRV for her:
- You could probably try applying for a TRV for her first and when she gets to Canada, have her apply inland for a Work permit.
- If you just want her to come visit, then the best way is just to have her apply for a TRV from her home country. She would need to send in documents to prove that she will return and she is just coming for a visit (in order to have the best chance of getting the visa).

The Seniors could probably assist a bit more. Or expound some more.

First, you cannot sponsor your wife or anyone else while you're an international student. Sponsoring your spouse means that you're applying for her immigration.

If you meant TRV for her; you certainly can do that. Mind you the rejection rate is pretty high for spouses. As scotchy007 mentioned above, she can apply for Open WP as well (which will be even harder than TRV). Invitation letter, your funds and her ties to home country would play important roles in getting TRV.

On what basis would she apply for the visa then. Its not like she is sending in the application along with your application. You are already in Canada. She can either apply for a visitors visa using a letter from you or she could apply for a visitors visa for tourism purposes. She would still have to show itinerary and other documents. So, you need to figure out what would be best in your situation.

I was never successful in bringing my wife here as a visitor while I was an UG student. I, in my last semester in 2010, already having a permanent job offer, invited both my wife and mother to attend my graduation ceremony. Well, they both were rejected. My wife was in middle of her medical internship at time of the TRV application. She applied again in 2011 when both of us were working full-time in different countries. I was under PGWP and already applied for PR for both through PNP. She again got rejected.

For the first application, I thought my student status soon to expire and my financial condition caused the rejection. For the second time, I guess our application for PR might create some issue. Well, both scenarios were different with same result.

From my experience and others'; I can just give you some tips:

• Int'l students with some source of income are more successful in bringing their spouses. Hence, PG students are preferred as they may have income from RA, TA etc.
• Your wife/spouse must be either student or worker back home. It proves stronger ties.
• Neither you nor your wife should have a student status that expires soon.
• Write an emotional invitation letter. I've seen it work.
