I am a PR. Can I sponsor my elder sister?

Hi Everyone,

I got my PR 3 years ago and living in Vancouver. I am alone in Canada, single and no relative. Can I sponsor my sis in Myanmar (burma) who is 40 year old to come to Canada as a PR? Her English is not good enough to apply under Express Entry.

Can anyone has some experience please share some info? Thanks in advance.

You can only sponsor your sister who is 40 if your father and mother are both dead......you have no spouse and no dependent children you could sponsor......and you have on relatives who are Canadian citizen or PR relatives.

Thank you for ur reply. Both of my parents are still alive. Is there any other possible way? like come as a student and apply working visa or PNP?

If your parents are still alive, you cannot sponsor her.

Sure - she can try applying for a study permit and then see if she can qualify for PR. She will need to make sure the program she takes in Canada makes sense in light of her previous education and work experience. She should take a two year program in Canada at either a public college or university to make sure that she qualifies for a three year PGWP and has the highest chance of qualifying to immigrate.
