Has anyone with a hyphenated first name had it changed by an IRCC officer during the initial document review?

The PA's first name includes a hyphen, and that’s how it was entered in the application. However, the GCMS notes show that an IRCC reviewing officer removed the hyphen and replaced it with a space. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Also, what are the consequences if the name on the COPR or PR card doesn’t exactly match the name on the passport? Could it cause issues with travel, future applications, or other official processes? Thank you.

I believe IRCC removes punctuation from names and uses a space for PR cards. You can call them to ask this. (This is related to international passport standards for acceptable characters in machine-readable docs - although of course there is no single standard despite efforts to do so.)

Don't stress about such mistakes specifically in GCMS officer's notes. Officers write these notes very quickly and they don't care about such things as punctuation, grammar, orthography or spelling.

You will be requested all your personal information before issuing COPR and PR.

Unlike the USA, Canada does show hyphen in your name on your PR card. I have one on mine. Never had problem dealing with driver's licence, CRA, SIN, banks etc.

If you find the hyphen has been omitted in the COPR or PR card you end up getting, request that IRCC issue you a new one.
