Hi everyone,

I'm a Canadian Citizen (born in Canada to Canadian parents). I've lived outside of Canada, in Kuwait, since 2012. I met my husband here in Kuwait 4 years ago and we married in December 2017. My husband is a Lebanese citizen but works in Kuwait, legally, and has for the past 6 years as well. Since we just got married in court, we want to have our wedding at my parent's home in Canada this summer. We applied for my husband's travel visa last week and today received the REFUSAL letter, citing the following:

Grounds for refusal:

I am not satisfied that you have sufficient funds, including income or assets, to carry out your stated purpose in going to Canada or to maintain yourself while in Canada and to effect your departure.

Purpose of visit

Your personal assets and financial status

Your travel history

personal assets and financial status

We are so confused as to why this happened as we both submitted our bank statements and have really good savings, especially for just a one month trip. We also both submitted our work contracts in Kuwait and letters from our employers that we will be returning to Kuwait, as well as our legal residencies in our passports for living and working in Kuwait. My parents wrote a letter of invitation as well. :(

What else should we do?? Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thank you!

Your case is difficult because once you leave for Canada your ties to Kuwait are minimal and it will be assumed that you will stay in Canada and apply for inland spousal sponsorship. You should add a lease to your application if you have one. I know in some gulf countries you have to prepay a yearly amount. Something similar would show proof that you intend to return to Kuwait.

I suggest you go through these cases which are similar to your situation:
