Hello,

I have a friend going through this it seems he is regretting marrying her and it was obvious to everyone that she tricked him into sponsorship. His final interview is going to scheduled soon. He wants to know if he will be interviewed alone (or if he will be interviewed at all)? If so, can he tell the officer that he doesn't want to sponsor her anymore? Can anyone please help? This situation is kind of urgent. Yes, it's messed up but I'm trying my best to gather information for him.

Thanks!

Did he apply inland? Outland? If outland, there often isn't an interivew. If inland, there is a landing interview - no, he is certainly not interviewed alone.

If he wants to withdraw the application then he needs to contact IRCC using the instructions below. The place to do this is not the interview. He needs to submit a webform.

He applied inland. Is it for certain they don't interview individually? Even if it's not a landing interview? Say they want to find out more information from the couple before making a decision....

No, you both will show up at the booth and answer any questions asked. Usually they start with the sponsor. Ask question to sponsor, usually "do you still want to continue with the sponsorship?" and remind you that there is a 3 year responsibility to the applicant. Then they change to the applicant and asked some questions, usually 3 questions. Such as "Do you have any undeclared children on the application since entering Canada", "Did you commit any offences or been charged since coming to Canada". Usually one of the 3 background questions on the application. Applicant then sign the COPR and agent stamp the COPR and update applicant's passport, write "Landed with date assigned". After that, the applicant is officially landed.

If they actually have a relationship interview and not a landing interview the process may be slightly different. If the interview email actually said they need to find out more about the couple before making a decision (and not "an interview is required for final processing") then its a relationship interview.

Interviews about the relationship are only held for a small number of inland applications. Most likely there will be no relationship interview and only the landing interview. If he wants to withdraw the application, he needs to submit the webform.
