Hi all,

I am a new comer to Canada as a Permanent Resident FSW, I and still I dont have a job in Canada so far, I want to know what are my options if I want to sponsor or bring my parents from my troubled home country,I am their only child, and it would be difficult for me to leave them alone in a warring country ,however they are able to support themselves financially since they used to work in UAE for a long time,I would like to know what options do I have to bring them into Canada to stay with me, the super visa is difficult since I am not working ,is there some sort of family reunion program or something similar.

regards

Hello Yorker13,

So far the Parental sponsorship is suspended until late 2013.
Your only option is super visa, however, I suggest to look more into the super visa, maybe write to the immigration department to ask them if your parents being financially self sufficient and with a big bank account can be a substitution for your employment.
My advice, focus on finding a job. If you don't find a job you will find yourself banging your head to the wall in all future issues, not only sponsoring your parents.

Sorry to disappoint you but either way your chances are very bleak
You can't go for Super visa as you don't work, but even if you want to invite for regular tourist visa - you need to show income and good standing here + your folks need to show good income standing in UAE so the officer is convinced that they will return after the trip. On a longer term basis, IF they get tourist visa, you can try to make them stay here on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds which is very very tough
You can't sponsor them as you need to show 3 years of income and that process with take you 3 years + time line to get them here is 5-6 years, so 7+ years
So best bet is tourist visa and then extend visa internally but they will have to go back and then wait and come back again
All this is possible if they get multiple visa

You should have researched before coming to this country

Parent Sponsorship will re-open in Jan 2014. CIC will only accept 5,000 applications per year. You must show 3 years of income exceeding the low-income cutoff for parent sponsorship. As the backlog was still 80,000 as of May 2013, the wait time is still going to be years after applying.

Recent News:
Announced May 10th2013:
CIC will begin accepting new applications on January 2nd, 2014.
New Criteria:
Minimum necessary income increased by 30 percent,
Lengthen period for demonstrating funds from one year to three,
Extend sponsorship undertaking period to 20 years instead of 10,
Accompanying dependents must be 18 or younger:

For a SuperVisa, you must also meet LICO requirements. If your parents are independantly wealthy and have good ties to their home country (i. e., property, business), they can try for a regular Visitor's Visa. However, they can only stay for 6 months (or less).

As others have said, both the super visa and sponsoring your parents for PR status (family reunification) have income requirements. If you are unemployed, then you don't qualify to sponsor your parents through either of these programs.

Your parents' only option is to apply for a regular visitor visa. To be approved, they will have to demonstrate they have sufficient funds to pay for their visit and also show that they have strong ties to their home country and have no plans to remain in Canada long term.
