I want to call IRCC (1-888-242-2100) and speak to a live person about the status of my permanent residency application.

I submitted it about 5 months ago via mail and the tracking says it was received, but I haven't gotten an email yet that they've started processing it. I've been told that you should usually get that email after 3-4 months, so I want to call and find out what's going on.

However, the automated system requires me to type in an application number, which I don't have since I haven't gotten the email yet. I can't figure out how to get past the automated system and speak to a real person.

Does anyone know what I need to press in order to speak to someone? Thanks.

Update: I submitted a message via the web form on Wednesday and they got back to me today (Friday) so I'm impressed at the response time.

They said they can't find my application -- nightmare fuel! But it does make me very glad I reached out. They asked for some additional information including the exact address where it was mailed, and the tracking number, so crossing my fingers that this will all be resolved happily.
