Hello Everyone,

I would appreciate some guidance regarding how to properly inform IRCC about my admission deferrals and whether there is any way to help move my application forward more quickly.

Background

I was originally admitted for the Winter 2026 intake (January 2026). I submitted my first study permit application in September 2025, but it was refused at the end of October 2025 due to insufficient funds.

I reapplied on November 2, 2025. According to the application tracker, my eligibility was passed on November 27, 2025. Since then, the application has remained stuck in the background check stage.

As I did not receive a decision in time, I deferred my admission to Summer 2026 (May 2026). I informed IRCC about this deferral through a webform on January 21, 2026, and submitted my updated Letter of Acceptance.

However, there was still no progress, so I had to defer again to Fall 2026 (September 2026). This will be my final deferral, as per my university’s policy.

I recently requested GCMS notes, and the latest update in the notes was dated March 24, 2026. According to the notes, the security check with a partner agency is still pending.

My Questions

  1. Should I inform IRCC again about my latest deferral to Fall 2026?
  2. Is there any other action I should take at this stage?
  3. Is there any way to request expedited processing or help move the application faster, considering this is my final opportunity?
For context, I am a PhD applicant.

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.
