how to hire a resource from outside of Canada

Hi,

we are an Alberta based corporation with revenues around 400k (in 2021) and around 100k in profits (rest were paid in dividends among the directors) ... we hire contractors outside of Canada and don't have any one on our Canadian payroll.

We are planning to hire a resource from outside of Canada. could you please advise 1) if we are eligible to hire a skilled resource from outside of Canada under the above-mentioned circumstances and 2) what's the hiring process? can you please provide some high-level details 3) how much a lawyer charges for such cases? and the duration it takes

Yes, you are eligible.

You will most likely need to go through the LMIA process in order to hire the foreign worker. This requires you to complete a number of steps, including advertising the job in Canada to prove no Canadian could be hired. Suggest you dedicate some time to researching this process.

Plan on processing times of 4 months for the LMIA and then another few months for the work permit. Of course it may be shorter or longer than that.

I don't know lawyer costs.
