Hi Nabil,

How does one starts getting Canadian experience ? Is it by firt residing there for a length of time ? or is it by getting Canadian education ? or is it by getting work experience in Canada ?

If the answer is the latter, how then does one get Canadian experience especially as immigrants?

Thanks
Hi there ...

From my own experience ... what you need to do is:

1- Try to socialize with Canadians (not newcomers) as much as you can. This website is a great tool to find people who share the same interest and meet (not virtually, they really meet) www.meetup.com

2- Directly seek Community Centers help ... they have lots of courses where they teach you about Canadian Culture, Business Environments, Canadian English Idioms, and even they send you to co-op placement in a company to have few months of REAL Canadian Experience This is really very important step. Check "Enhanced Language Training with Co-op Placement" section at: http://www.immigrationexpertise.com/2008/06/just-landed-learning-english.html

3- Work on your credentials, try to fill-in the gabs in your profession .. like professional certification and what's not.

4- If the time passes and you couldn't get a job ... I would say The best is to go back to school and get a Canadian degree in your profession (don't necessarily change your career). This WILL be considered as Canadian Experience Check this about Studying in Canada: http://www.immigrationexpertise.com/2009/02/international-student-in-canada.html

5- Don't take a survival JOB ... this will lead you back to start your life and career from scratch ... you will loos your time and then gradually your experience.

Hope that helps
