Are you landing for the first time? If so, you can bring as much as you want, so long as you declare it.

Yes it's the first landing. But even if I declare all of it, is there any limit, like I have to pay taxes if I cross that limit.

I'm curious too. We are from India, so naturally we have some gold to bring in during landing and are planning to do so. I don't think there should generally be a problem with bringing gold in as long as you declare it. People arrive with cars from USA and they can enter (however, apparently if the car is relatively new, you have to pay taxes at the border even if you are a new PR).

I think we need info from someone who arrived in canada with gold and went through the process. Did you have troubles at the airport while boarding? Security etc. And did you have troubles here in Canada after landing with customs and duties etc?

There is no limit when you are landing as a PR. You should document everything that you bring on a B4 form.

As long as it is on your B4 form, there is no limit and you will not have any issues with customs upon arrival in Canada. Whether you have issues at your port of embarkation or not is another question.

I guess then I have to make sure to list ALL of them including details to avoid any complication.

Definitely list all of your jewelry and bring printed photos of each piece as well. That way, you can ensure the photos are stamped which will come in handy if you ever travel outside of Canada with your jewelry. Otherwise, you risk being taxed on it when you return to Canada.

Do I have to be really specific about that (ie price, carats, weights, etc)? And if my husband declare half of it my jewelries under his name, is it gonna be issue? He is a PR.

The exemption only applies to those who are immigrating to or returning to live in Canada. As you husband is a PR already living in Canada, if he declares your belongings under his name, he will have to pay full customs and duties on them.

It depends...Are they bringing it here for a holiday, or are they planning on leaving it here? If it's the latter, then they may have to pay the full import duties on it. If it's for their personal use, and they will take it back with them when they leave Canada, then it's fine and won't be taxed.

I am traveling to Canada on visitor visa however my PR application under spousal sponsorship is under process. There are chances that I got my PR in my visitor visa time frame and start living permanently.
How much gold I can carry with me.

you can't legally import gold until and unless you get your PR. Otherwise, you are just here on a visit and aren't eligible to bring in items that will remain in Canada on a tax free basis.

there is no limits on how much gold or jewelry allowed in Canada , you may want to check if your country allows the export of large gold quantities .
