My friend will be coming from Mexico to visit me for a week near the end of the year. I understand there is a strike going on with the workers who process the immigration and foreign entry applications right now?

Will my friend be affected by this?

Re: Visiting Canada For a Week, time?

It would be a TRV they need right?

Does the strike affect these types of applications?

If yes, would it be possible for them to send all of the documents and application forms to me (I live in Canada), and I submit the their application locally? Would that speed the process up?

Yes - your friend needs a TRV.

Yes - the strike is affecting TRVs. But hopefully it will be over soon.

No - you can't submit the application to a Canadian office / from within Canada.

I would recommend your friend apply two month before his planned departure date.

Thanks, but would it be wise to wait until the strike is over? Or just submit it now? They are quite nervous about getting their passport lost amongst all the other stalled applications?

Do they still process during the strike? Just slowly? Or has all processing stopped?

My bf has been waiting 5 weeks for a TRV! Normally takes 14

Well they will need to provide plane ticket and hotel reservation as proof for their visa application. Is it wise to purchase all of this, if it's possible they do not get their visa in time, and are denied entry to the country? Huge waste of money?

It's always possible that the TRV will be denied. So either buy refundable plane tickets or don't buy them until the TRV has been approved.

They are processed in order so better to apply now. Visitor Visas are the priority and are still being issued even in Embassies that are on strike. You can always ask for passports back if they take too long.

It's not possible to buy them after the TRV has been approved, because in the application, it asks for plane ticket proof of purchase as part of the required documents.
