How long does VO hold passport for?

Hi,

I just recently submitted my outland spousal immigration papers on Feb 6 to CIC-M. My wife went back to Nairobi. We are planning a religious wedding ceremony in December and going to the Caribbean. The question I have is, that I fear that in December, the Nairobi office may ask for her passport to get the Visa stamp. I am not sure when they will ask for this.

Is it wise for me to plan for the wedding ceremony in December and with her travelling here? Is there a risk they may ask for the passport in December? If they ask for it, how long do they usually hold it for?
