Hi all,
We landed in May 2019 and have our PR cards. We had to return to the UK to sell our house, liquidate investments etc in preparation for the move. Our initial plan was to move in May 2020, but due to Brexit we are struggling to sell our house (and investment properties). I was wondering if we should stay in the UK for a couple of years for things to stabilize so we could sell our properties. Is this a good idea?
I understand our PR cards are valid for 5 years (until May 2024) and I need to be in Canada for 3 years to qualify for citizenship.
Q1. What happens if we move just before our PR cards expire (say 2023 or 2024)?
Q2. Can we renew our PR cards? Until when can I realistically delay moving there without losing our PR status?

Any relevant advice on this is greatly appreciated !

1)you must spend a minimum of 2 years in the 5 years from your landing in canada. After the initial 5 years the 5 years becomes a rolling 5 years where on each new entry you may need to demonstrate 2 years residency in the preceeding 5 years.

If you landed May 2019 you should return by April/May 2022 latest given any later and you could be reported at the border for failing the RO starting process to revoke your PR status. Even if you left it that long you would need to stay put for 2 years in Canada to ensure you met the RO.

2)You cannot renew PR cards from outside of Canada and to renew you must have met the RO at the time of applying

Citizenship requires 3 years physical presence in Canada

You could also consider to move to Canada while having British properties and investment.
