How long can I stay in Canada after my study permit expires?

Hello, I'm an international graduate student currently enrolled in a Quebec university. My study permit will expire on Aug.31st this year, and I will finish all my courses in July, which is fine. However, my university is not able to issue the final marks until mid September, so I won't be able to get my transcript or completion letter before my study permit expires. This is really annoying but there's nothing I can do about it.

As a result, I cannot apply for PGWP before my study permit expires, my status will become illegal while I'm waiting for the diploma or completion letter.

One solution is to apply for an extension of my study permit, but the application process is very troublesome since I'm living in Quebec, I have to extend my CAQ as well at the same time, this requires me to provide a list of additional documents such as new evidence of financial support which I simply cannot provide. Even worse, since I will finish my study in July and not going to study after September, I really don't think CIC and Quebec would approve my application anyway, acceptance is not guaranteed.

Another option is to just let my study permit expires, then apply for PGWP and also pay to restore my status as a student. This sounds like a bad idea, but the restoration fees are actually cheaper than applying for extensions + CAQ, which also reduces the overhead of preparing extra documents. But as my status will become illegal then, I wonder if I have to leave the country first, or if there's a grace period when I can stay in Canada even if I lost my status.
