“Applying Together: Student Visa and Spouse Work Permit Canada”

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience with applying together for a Canada study permit and a spouse open work permit (SOWP)?

I am from Nepal and planning to apply for a Master’s program at the University of Windsor. I would also like to apply together with my spouse at the same time.

Do I need approval from the university for my spouse as well, or can I apply for my spouse’s visa independently? Or is it better to first apply for my study permit and then apply for my spouse after I receive my visa? but i am planning to apply for us both at same time.

Also, how much financial proof (funds, income, or education loan) is generally required for both myself and my spouse?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

You can apply both at the same time with LOA, funds, SOP justifying costs etc. Everything is on the IRCC site but it is cash in the bank, not income. So around $28k cash plus tuition. You both want to show ties to return because coming to study not immigrate.
