How long can i stay in canada after change in job

We are currently on a work permit in Canada. I have got a new job and the new employer has just applied for a lmo and then the work permit will be applied. If I leave my current job, how long can we stay in Canada, as it will take about 2 - 3 months before the new employer gets the new work permit.

One more question. My current work permit says that I can only work with my current employer. Would this mean that we have to leave the country if I leave the job with my current employer.
