Hi all. Need some insights.
My wife’s tracker was updated and her citizenship ceremony is January 26th. We have a flight booked the evening of Jan 30th.

If her oath is virtual , how long to get the e-certificate? Can she then apply for urgent next business day passport ?

If her oath is in person - do you get the certificate same day?

Wondering is there is any chance she can get her passport before trip on the 30th?

If we have to will cancel the flight. Don’t want to delay oath ceremony . Thanks

In person you will get the certificate after the oath.

It can take a few days after virtual, but don't cancel in advance. Show up at the ceremony and speak with the IRCC officer there. No guarantee, but there could be a way to speed up the process for you if you tell them and show them your travel plans. If they can't speed things up, you'll tell them to reschedule you.

Thanks. Just to clarify - can speak to the IRCC officer on the virtual ceremony or only in person?

Looking at the specific dates, doing the ceremony Monday and getting passport in sufficient time for a flight friday is VERY tight. It might work, or it might not.

Many get the certificate electronically the same or next day. BUT: the instructions warn you that it cannot be used to apply for a passport for 2-3 days (it seems literally either two or three days - I do not know why sometimes different). They do not give specific information on how they 'count' these days. It's hypothetically possible if you went early that the passport office would check the system and say it's okay, already 'final' in system, and proceed to issue passport. Or they could say you have to wait.

Once you get that - with a flight reservation / ticket and extra $$$$ you can in theory get the passport next day. I actually think this is reliable, in that if they 'take' your passport app and all and say they will have it the next day, that they will. I don't believe they guarantee it being ready at a specific hour. But if there's any issue - photo wrong, documents not quite there, whatever - it's your problem. So Friday is very tight.

My strong recommendation would be to delay the departing flight - until eg the following Wednesday (because not much will happen on weekend). But it's up to you to decide how much you wish to risk it and weight the consequences.

Oh - you have to be sure to go to a passport office that specifically provides this urgent next-day service. Not all do. (And they specify on the website opening hours and which offices provide which services).

You will always meet a citizenship officer during the online ceremony. At the moment they verify your ID and ask you to cut the PR card, you'll have the opportunity to tell them.

Much appreciated. Thank you very much.
I am happy to see you are still around sharing your knowledge and insights. Many years ago you responded to a post I had regarding my PR obligation and status. Now I am a citizen and soon my wife. Keep up the great work!

If urgent processing . Can someone collect her passport for her ? Just say it’s not ready in time for flight but one or two days after.
