Hello,

Pretty new to Canada health care and hospitals and doctors... Since I am from Nepal and the procedure of visiting a doctor there is different , I wonder how does it work in Canada?

For example I am sick and I want to go to hospital for check up? Do I have to walk to the hospital and register in the counter and visit a doctor or how does this work? sorry so new to Canada ways of living and activities..

You are not expected to go to the hospital unless you are seriously ill. First you would have to go to a GP (general practitioner). If he diagnoses with you something that needs a specialist, he will refer you to a specialist. Hospital you can go to if you break a bone, cut or burn yourself badly or are so ill that you feel you might be about to die. Depending on how busy the hospital is and how severe they perceive your problem, you could be waiting for hours. If you need an ambulance, you will of course be taken to a hospital.

In order to find a GP, you can either go to a walk in clinic (google walk in clinic in your city) or find a GP who is taking new patients (google find a gp in your city).
