I've been talking to my boyfriend for almost 2 years already and I feel like I'm ready to see him. We're very close with each other. He lives in Alberta, Canada. I'll be 18-years-old as of next year, and I really want to see him when I'm 18. He's 19 as of right now. I am also from the USA (So I'm guessing it shouldn't be THAT difficult versus living in another country). But anyway, what I really want to know is what to do, step-by-step so I can see him. And how long I can see him for once I'm there. And if someone can please help me out, is it possible to live with him while I'm visiting? I hear you need to be there for a period of time to be considered a Canadian citizen. But please, I really need help on this. I don't want to let it go or anything like that, I've been looking forward to doing this for a very long time. :( I am also going to be saving my money, as well.

You don't become a citizen by living in Canada.
As a US citizen you do not need a visa to visit him.

So the short answer is - Get a passport, book a flight and visit him.

You can read about visiting Canada here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp
If you have criminal convictions you can be refused entry to Canada.
US citizens can normally stay in Canada for six months.

Hi there,

You can visit your boyfriend by acquiring temporary visa as a tourist. If you wish to live with him permanently in there then you must acquire visa via marriage :)

She doesn't need a Temporary Resident Visa because the US is a visa exempt country. She can visit on her passport alone.
