Hi........Iam from India and social worker......recently i got Canadian Visa and PR , but need to wait for some more time to add my new born.mean while can i register myself as a professional social worker under any canadian authority...if possible how? Please advice

If your social work degree was obtained outside of Canada or USA then I think the first step is to have your degree assessed to see if it meets Canadian standards as social work is a regulated profession in Canada. Here is a link to Canadian Association of Social Workers application for assessment http://www.casw-acts.ca/en/what-social-work/international-assessment-credentials . The application fee is expensive at $339. If your degree is assessed as a Canadian equilavent then you can then register with CASW and/or the provincial body. I plan on settling in Ontario and here is a link to the registeration page for Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers http://www.ocswssw.org/en/registration.htm If you plan on settling somewhere else do a search on that province's social work association's registeration process.

Hello Wolvy,

Wonderful info.

Would you also let me know how does one become a social worker in Canada? I am currently in a completely different profession, however interested in taking up social work full time in Canada.

Do advice me.

Thanks

See the following link:

You typically need a Bachelor of Social Work degree at a minimum.

Thanks syclla for posting the link, that was just what I was going to refer to. Good luck on whatever career you pursue.
