Hi,

Thank you in advance for your help! I'm from the UK and I initially came to Canada on the 6th April 2018 so I presumed my leaving date was 6 months later (October 3rd) as I never received a stamp on my passport at passport control.

I went back to the UK for 17 days and returned on the 12th June 2018.

I've been told by friends that because I left for 17 days, the date I need to officially be out of the country by would have changed. So it would be 6 months from the 12th June (9th Dec 2018) now.

Does anyone know if this is correct of how I can offically find out? I am considering extending so don't want to break any rules that might jeopardize that.

Thank you for your help!

I would say as you left Canada, the 6 months will start all over again from when you arrived second. Did you just come here for 6 months vacation? You have not got any kind of permit? I know the UK is a visa exempt country and you can stay as long as 6 months.

Thank you for your reply.

I don't have any sort of visa currently & this visit would come under being a vacation.

6 months from the time you came back to Canada then
That is correct. Unless a "Visitor Record" is issued by CBSA at the POE, the default is another 6 months.

That's great news! And is there no way to get this information officially?

So is it literally 6 months from when you last entered unless the border officer stamps your passport saying otherwise.

Yes - that's right.
