Dear Forum Members

I sent the application to sponsor my wife on 13th November 2010, but I did not hear from them yet. How can I ask about the status of my application?

Thank you

Sam

I think the site says its processing applications received since 25th November (as of the 29th December). Hopefully you had a tracking number for your application. You should contact the call centre and see if they can trace your package or see if there is a problem and they are returning it to you. That's all I can suggest.

Hi ,
I couriered my application in, arriving Dec 23rd 2010 as stated by the courier compnay. Using my receipt number etc I get no result as of Jan 13th. Just to clarify - does this mean I have to wait a month or so before they open the package and start plugging in data so I CAN get a result that it has arrived
Not worried yet, but should I be?

Thanks

John

Yes it will take a few more weeks to show up in their system, but you should have a tracking number from the courier company to check that it has been received.

Cdagal,

If I read your profile correctly, it indicates your passport was requested in November - and you still haven't rec'd your Visa? Did they return your passport to you?

Actually, my husband is Nigerian, and we had an issue with his passport. Nigeria started using the machine-readable ones only effective December 31, 2010. His visa was not yet ready to be issued (they are doing the last of the background checking), and so he would not have had it in time. There is nowhere in Brazil that he could get it upgraded, so took the opportunity to go home and see his family for a couple of weeks and take care of his passport issue as well. He is now back in Brazil and has re-submitted his passport...just waiting...:)

I requested his CAIPS notes again a month ago, and just received them. They say that everything has been approved, pending successful background checks, and the bring forward date on his file is January 30, 2011...soo...here's hoping that they have everything done then - I miss him!!

Fantastic!! That's great news!!

I don't know how to request CAIPS notes. Would you mind explaining?

Thanks!!

I emailed my processing centre (they don't accept phone calls) and I got a standard answer:
"Your file is in line for a review by an immigration officer. We cannot estimate when a decision will be made, but we assure you that you will hear from us once the officer reviews your file.

Canadian Consulate General Buffalo

Immigration Section

buffalo-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca"

CAIPS notes are the notes made on your file by the Immigration Officer...useful bits of information if you are called for an interview, for example. They take 4-6 weeks to arrive (the norm is about 35 days). They have to be ordered by someone in Canada, so you can either sign a form to have someone order them on your behalf (with a fee of $5, cheque payable to the Receiver General of Canada) or order them yourself for free if you are within Canada. Order the CAIPS notes, not the FILE, as the file contains everything, takes a LONG time to get, and can really slow down your application. CAIPS is just the basic information that you need, and does not affect your processing time in any way.

I ordered them for my husband, who is not in Canada, so i had to pay the $5 and he had to fill out a form authorizing me as his representative. ...hope this helps :)

It absolutely helps!! 8) Thank you!!! ;)

I believe I gave authorization to our immigration attorney - his address is the "mail to" address on my file. Do you know if it will complicate things if I request notes?

Thank you again!! ;D

Nooo not at all..it does not even go through the visa office, it is a seperate office entirely. I have requested and received them twice now with no problem.

Yes John The time line for CIC to process an application is 45 days right now from the date they receive it.
I hope it helps

Ok our CAIPS notes request was sent off yesterday. Let's hope to have something back from them in February. ;D
