Hi there,

I am 25 year old second year graduate student taking my masters in fine arts at University of Saskatchewan. I would like to know my options to permanently stay in Canada after my studies. All of my family members are outside of Canada except my older sister lives in BC and she got her citizenship recently. I came to Canada as a visitor to accompany my husband during his studies but now we are separated and filed for divorce and I applied for masters and now I have student visa. I want to stay in canada after my masters and my question is what are my options to stay and work in canada after school? Can my sister sponsor me to be a citizen in canada? Or should I apply under federal program?

Thanks,

No - your sister cannot sponsor you. You may qualify to apply for the Federal Skilled Worker program if you have at least one full year of work experience.

I would recommend you read through the discussions in the International Students section of this forum where these topics are being discussed.
