Dear All,

I am from Hong Kong and it is a visa-exempt country to enter into Canada. I read from the forum that CIC no longer asks for passport to issue the PR visa as long as you are from a visa-exempt country. Is it true? How does it work? I heard that they will give you a COPR instead...is that true that I can land Canada with the COPR and my passport? My application is in the final stage and I just wonder whether I need to submit my passport. Grateful if anyone can share their experience here. Thanks. ;D

Cheers, HK Guy

They'd lynch you here in Guangzhou for saying that HK is a 'country'.

In answer to your question, yes, they should issue a COPR instead of affixing a visa inside your passport.

FS...haha....yes, I guess I am not politically correct :) So, they will only ask me to send the page with my photo and info to them? Do you know the details as to how it works?

I'm not sure of the exact process, but I would suspect it is a simple matter of collecting the COPR, whether they mail it to you or you pick it up, I don't know.

1. It is an either or situation. The VO can request the actual passport for Visa exempt applicants or just a photo copy of EVERY page of the passport. They are issued a plain paper COPR which they present with their passport when they "land". If your application was processed through CAIPS,then the passport must be submitted. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob379.asp
