Goodmorning or good afternoon people
An iraqi family (a mom and 2 kids) has been suffering for 3 years now in turkey. They are recognized as refugees by the UNHCR. they want to be sponsored to get to Canada. Any ideas? I need associations that accept to help Iraqis and sponsor them.

Please leave any info you got and possibely could help.
Thank you!

Associations are generally tapped out at this point and not accepting further sponsorship cases.

If you are located in Canada, your best bet for helping this family is to sponsor them through the group of 5 stream by finding several others who are willing to support them financially along with you.

Problem is, im not in canada and im not even canadian. I'm also iraqi and a refugee in France and i can't do anything from where i stand. I need to contact a supportive association or anyone willing to help those poor people.

You can find the full list of organizational in the link below. Unfortunately the vast majority aren't accepting new sponsorships and there's no easy way to tell who is and who isn't.

Thank you so much but ive tried this and they rarely answer unfortunately!
Waiting for another solution :(

There's only one other solution: If that family knows someone in Canada or if they have family in Canada, they should contact them and ask if they would be willing to get a group of people together to sponsor them through the Group of Five stream.

Talk by calling Bc Muslim association + 1 (604) 270-2522

Please call them during 8:30 am to 4:00 PM (Pacific Time)

They will arrange private group hopefully

Good Luck

Given the amount of asylum seekers arriving by land on the land border the priority is dealing with those people and there aren't large numbers of private sponsorships. If they are sponsored it still could be many years. I'm sure that living in Turkey is very tough but living in Canada is also difficult. Does the woman have an education? Does she speak English or French? Is she prepared to work long hours? Living off welfare in Canada is very difficult. It barely covers the basics. Most have to get food donations, donated clothing, may not have money for cable or internet. Just want to be realistic and that Canada is not perfect place. Many Syrian refugees in Canada are really struggling.

Please stop generalizing as you do know Iraqis have been always independent as refugees/immigrants as i'm now in France i work in the summer and study during the year. The family can speak English fluently even the 15 year old teenager. They're not seeking a providing country, they're seeking a refuge and a chance to give back to the country taking them.. also, they just cant live in Turkey anymore because its getting difficult and most turkish people hate arabs. They have dignity they work if they find the opportunity with law wages but still its not enough knowing that Turkey doesnt like anyone not turkish!!! (Unless you're a wealthy tourist!)
But thanks for your opinion anyways. Good day.

I posed questions I was not making generalizations. Just because you live in France, likely immigrated recently, doesn't mean you are independent. There are quite a few Iraqi refugees who have arrived in the past 30 years that are not independent, are dependent on welfare and do no speak English or French. There are others who have done very well even if they areived with no English/French and had very little resources or education. Given that you are talking about a single mother and we were given no background on language skills, education and whether the woman had ever worked out of the home I asked questions. Some new immigrant women have intentions to try and work but then discovered that there could be a 3 hour period between the end of school and when the parent would return to work. They were not prepared for their children to walk home alone and be home alone for multiple hours. The cost of living in Canada is relatively high so most families require 2 incomes. That may mean that the mother has to take on a second job. The media has portrayed Canada as this wonderful place for refugees. It is wonderful but also very hard especially without family support. If you ask any asylum seeker they will tell you that things are too expensive, they can't find housing and if they require welfare it is not enough to provide even the basics for a family. Your friend should be aware of the reality of asylum seekers in Canada and determine if it is still right for her.

Canuck78 is a well informed and respectful member of this forum. What Canuck78 said is true that most refugees aren't living comfortable in Canada. Obviously, the prime minister JT was giving a wrong message of "welcome all". Since then, a lot Canadian (by survey) aren't buying it and they are trying to unseat liberals nation wide. You think that Turkish aren't friendly? Some Canadian are fed up too. Even now, the liberals are trying to close refugee shopping loop holes. By the way, why don't you help them to France, since you seemed established there? Won't they be more comfortable in a totally strange environment with a dear friend's help?

I'm a student/refugee working part time... sponsoring in canada takes 5 working people (full time). Why do u think france's process is any easier? I would help if i could i wouldn't hesitate because i know they're not the welfare sucking kinda people. I don't understand the aggressiveness im getting here. Thats sad.

Habibi don’t feel sad because trust me Canuck78 wasn’t trying to generalize or underestimate anyone, he was just asking questions to make you aware of what the family would face in Canada. This forum is helpful and you’ll always see people volunteering their time to help others. You are welcome between us and I hope you find a way to help this family.

You are the one being aggressive we are being honest about how extremely hard it will be to find a sponsorship group and that living in Canada as protected people is quite challenging. For example studying full-time while working part-time is likely unrealistic unless they have quite a lot of savings. It may be possible in France. Many new immigrants, whether they are protected people or not, usually have to work full-time and may be able to take part-time courses. Many work a few jobs and on top of that take part-time courses. The European safety net often covers more than the Canadian one. @Miraclejj is just asking about France because even if it is difficult to get sponosred at least she has a good friend there. Canadian people have been very generous and have given up their own savings to support a large number of refugee families. Many have dedicated all their free time to help families because they had more needs that expected. even if they had to neglect their own family. It has been 3 years and many still need anlotnof help. Before you ask the refugees were not just Syrian they were a mixture of Syrians, Iraqis and Palestinians.
