My fiancé and I will be getting married this spring. We made the decision to move to Toronto so that we can start a brand new life. Theres one issue he's Nigerian and he's not a US citizen I am. He's coming on a fiancé K-1 visa and after we get married he can apply for a green card in the US. We don't know how to go about applying for permanent residency in Canada for him because of his citizenship status! HELP!!

Americans don't have any more right than Nigerians to just move to Canada. Have you actually looked into whether you qualify for any Canadian immigration programs?

Agreed, being a US citizen doesn't give you the right to live and work in Canada.

If you can get a work permit for a skilled job, you and your husband can apply for an open work permit for him based on your permit. He would however have to show that he has strong ties to his home country and would not overstay in Canada.

If you have a way to apply for PR yourself, you simply include him on your application and he will get PR too as long as you both pass the background checks and medicals.

Are you a Canadian citizen or PR by any chance? Is that something you forgot to mention?

Otherwise see everyone else's comments - the fact he's Nigerian doesn't make things any harder. There's no expedited or special process for US citizens. Both you and he will have to follow the same process to immigrate to Canada.
