I am planning on applying for citizenship for my wife on March 30th, 2018
  • Eligibility period is 2013-03-30 to 2018-03-30
  • Landed and became a PR on 2014-09-11

Between 2013-03-30 and 2014-09-11 she was residing in Nairobi, Kenya (530 days) before landing as a PR.

For question 9c) during your eligibility period did you live outside of canada?. Should i reply yes or no. When i click yes, it asks me to fill in form CIT 0177 (Residence outside Canada - For Adult citizenship applicants declaring residence outside canada as a crown servant or with a crown servant family member Spouse, Common-law partner or parent)... this form is not applicable as my wife or myself have never been a crown servant.

If i reply NO, then question 10 a) asks when you have lived during your eligibility period. And in this case i am stating her residency in Nairobi, Kenya, prior to her becoming a PR.

Should I be replying yes or no to 9c) ?

Thanks for any clarification.

IRCC made a mistake in how these forms were set-up, but not including the extra form may cause your application to be returned.

So, you should complete the CIT0177 form, but enter "N/A" for both categories. Sign and date the form. Include a note with the application saying that she lived abroad, but not as a crown servant or the spouse of a crown servant, but have included the form as requested.

In question 10 you provide an overview of every place she lived, including Nairobi. (Note that you will need to provide a police certificate from Kenya, as she lived there for more than 183 days).

Thanks for the response. This is very helpful.

With regards to the police certificate, i have one dated 2013-11-29, a copy i had used when she applied for when i sponsored her. Do i need to get an updated one?

I expect IRCC will expect a police certificate that is dated after she last lived in Kenya, so you'll need a more recent one.
