I have heard that there is some recent law that if you have a PR card and you stay out of Canada for more then 6 months you will have problems in getting your citizenship/passport later or maintaining PR card status is that true?
I am aware that for getting the citizenship (Passport) you have to stay 3 years out of the 4 years period and for PR card renewal you have to stay for 2 years out of 5 years, please also advise is there any changes to this?
Please also reply with any recent changes.

Appreciate your help

Thanks

The Canadian citizenship residency requirement is changing to 4 out of 6 years next year. If you have more questions about this change - read through the threads in the citizenship section of this forum.

No - staying outside of Canada for more than six months will have no impact on your PR status provided you meet the PR residency requirement.

Yes - if you stay outside of Canada for more than six months you will lose your health care coverage. Once you return to Canada, you will have to live in Canada for a period of time (usually three months) before you will have access to health care coverage again.
