Hi,
I have been living outside Canada for the last 6 years. I got married to a non-Canadian and got 2 kids (who are Canadians).
We decided to relocate back to Canada as a family and I would obviously need to sponsor my wife in order to get a PR so that we move. In IM5540 of the sponsorship/immigration kit they ask for "proof of intention to re-establish in Canada" such as Job offer, property rental, mortgage, etc.... of which we have none.
So what should I include? there is an "Other" field but what could it be?

Please help.

Hi, you should send all you can that would show your intention to relocate, copies of quotes for moving\shipping your belongings, letters from friends and family that know of your relocation, letter from a family member that says you could be stay with them until you get on your feet, copies of e-mails from potential employers in Canada (from Canadian job banks). Not really sure where you are but is there a way you can open a Canadian bank account? do you have an idea of where you will be moving? maybe copies of e-mails inquiring about rentals in the area or inquiry's about buying a home, e-mail inquiry's about schooling or daycare for your children.

Where do you plan to live? Have you looked into schools for your kids? Are your wife/kids fluent in English (or French, depending on where in Canada you're going) and if not, have you looked into classes for them? Will you/your wife be working once you get back in Canada, and if so, have you been looking into potential jobs? If either of you will be attending school, show that you've been looking into schools to decide which to attend. Will you need to give notice, pay taxes, cancel a visa, sell property, etc to leave where you are now? If so, show that you're looking into doing these things.

Basically, make your plan to return to Canada as concrete and fleshed out as possible, and document every part of your plan the best you can. They know that you can't 100% plan everything, because approval times aren't set in stone, but at the same time they will need more than a statement saying that you intend to relocate.

I didn't have much proof here - sometimes you are just limited. My then-fiance, now-husband and I are in the UK... other than some general research, we have nothing "official" that we plan to move back...

We wrote in the box what our general plan was - we were hoping to move in Summer 2013. Once we got PR we would start looking for work from the UK, but with a view to move in the summer. We are planning to move in with my parents for a bit while we look for a house in x area of x city.

(So at least that showed we'd been looking at a city and an area.)

We then had my parents write a letter that basically said the same - they knew we were going to be moving in with them when we first moved over, and we were hoping to do so Summer 2013.

We were approved... I think a lot of people don't have much here, but at least articulate what your plans are - if they're really concerned they'll call or request an interview, and if you've been looking then you'll have some stuff to communicate that shows you've been doing research.
