Hi, my brother & family (2 adults, 3 kids) have been living in Canada (UK citizens) for 6 years. Working visa first. They applied for PR 3 years ago they were sent 3 out of the 5 PR cards but they didn’t like 2 of the children’s photos and were told to resend. They went out the country and back in at the border.
My sis in law was ill, onging tests etc and they ended up forgetting all about sending more photos for the PR. Roll on 3 years later. We’ve all booked Disney Orlando to meet up. (My family from UK, his Canada). Go in 2 weeks! They’ve only just remembered about the boys PR cards. Can anyone confirm if the boys have PR status and it’s just the cards they don’t? (We’ve looked at land border crossing for 3 of them if it’s just the actual card). Obviously they won’t leave Alberta if they don’t and will have to apply for residency again. It’s just not enough time to apply for anything before Disney and there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to find out the children’s residency status. Thanks in advance!

Others can comment but assuming you all took up PR in 2015 , landed fully with COPRs validated and have each accumulated 730 days in the country then your PR status is safe as you would have met the residency obligation 2 years out of 5.

Not having valid PR cards complicates matters given you need either a PR card or PRTD to board a plane back to Canada.

Given you are only vacationing you will not have time to get PRTDs which can only be obtained outside Canada so your only option is to head back through a land border with COPRs in hand to show PR status although without COPRs CBSA will still be able to find out status just potentially makes it easier with COPRs.

Also note PR cards are really only useful , with a few exceptions, for travelling outside of Canada , plenty of people either never get one or never renew but doesn’t mean they are not PRs.

PR cards expire PR status never expires and can only be revoked or renounced so if neither of the latter two conditions apply then they would be PRs whether having a card or not.
