Hey guys,

Ive applied for my wife who lives in Pakistan. It is possible that she maybe have our child in pakistan. So my question is, will the child be canadian citizen or will i need to apply for a citizenship certificate?

I was also sponsored to canada by my dad. I was 5 years old at the time and recieved citizenship when my dad became a citizen himself a few years later?

thanks

Since you are a naturalized citizen, your child will inherit your citizenship, however, he/she will not be able to pass it on to their children.

You will need to apply for a citizenship certificate for your child and as you do that, you can also apply for a temporary Canadian passport.

that's interesting matter. why kids of naturalized citizens cannot pass their citizenship to their kids? will they qualify only for PR?

It's not kids of naturalized citizens who can't pass on citizenship to their kids, it's kids of citizens who are born outside Canada. This is a part of the new law and is intended to keep the value of Canadian citizenship so to speak, that you can not just pass it on and pass it on over generations to people who have never lived in Canada and have no desire to live in Canada.

So basically, if you choose to live in another country and you have a child there, if you are a born or naturalized citizen, your child will still get your citizenship. However, if your child continues to live in another country and has a child there with a non-Canadian, that child will not inherit Canadian citizenship. If your child were to decide to move to Canada with their family, they could sponsor their spouse and children for PR.

Of course, if the child of such a citizen is born in Canada, they will still be Canadian by birth or if their other parent is a born or naturalized Canadian, they would be Canadian by inheritance.

Hi...all

I got my pr in 2005 and applied in 2008 for citizenship.but later I cancelled my petation b'use I did not want to loose my original citizenship.I was physically present 4 years in canada.
Now my pr card expires in 03-2010.I m now willing to apply for citizenship again.
Could it be possible just after i get my new renewed pr card????
should i file new application for citizenship or i can request CIC to start old application???would they doubt my case?
thank you

You can apply for citizenship again right now if you want to if you meet the "3 in the last 4 years in Canada" requirement. I don't think they will re-open an old application that you have already withdrawn. That has really nothing to do with your PR card. You can apply to renew your PR card right now too if you want. The processing time for PR card is usually around 3 months so you should have the new one when the old one expires.
