Hi Vipi,

I believe the course you're refering to is IT based.

Healthcare Management, however, is a whole different field, dealing with the adminstrative side of running clinics and hospitals. I will be doing that as my Master's Degree in the next year or two.

Healthcare management is on the government's top lists of in-need professions. I recently wrote a research paper for university about skilled workers and this was definitely on the list. However, I think most of those needs are in rural areas, outside of the large cities. Which works great for me, because I'm a country girl :)

Feel free to PM me and I'll show you the courses I'm looking at. Some of mine are through the USA because I'm an American citizen as well.

Hi,

If you visit echima.ca, it will clear many of your doubts about HIM. HIM is a broad title which is widely accepted here in Canada and US. Very good job opportuninties in healthcare. It is definitely IT related but not IT. I would say IT enabled service for healthcare. I am planning to take this course as well. To my research salaries are good and stability is there. There are many colleges offering this course. I am in Kingston and the college here offers fast-track HIM in one-year. If someone is specifically coming to study, I would recommend this. As instead of two-years, you will be able to do it in one year with equal standing.

Hope this helps.

Let me know if I can be of further help.

Yes, being a nurse would have its positives. You might get waiver for some courses in the program like anatomy and physiology and some others as well.

Hi,

I'll be moving in to saskatchewan in Spring next and I'm interested in studying HIM as well. Anyone in this thread who's currently enrolled or working as HIM practitioner/consultant? Can you provide insights, like how hard or easy it is to find jobs in this field, stability, salary-wise, etch. Much appreciated.
