Hi - I have a very peculiar situation. My 6yr old daughter's Indian passport expired in May 2016 and we need to travel to US to return the I-94. While I dont see huge issues in crossing the border (we are happy to be turned back to Canada - which is what I want). My question more so is - when i enter Canada (all our PR cards are valid), will the officer question about the expired Indian passport or he/she will let us through since our PR cards are valid. I plan to renew the Indian passport asap though.

Pls advise.

Well... in this case, the PR card is the Travel doc.

If just the passport is expired, why don't your daughter renew it?

DOnt have time. Passport renewal will take 4 weeks and I need to return the I-94 by end of 25th June. I just saw the passport like yesterday and came to know that it has expired.

You can just drop off you I-94 to CBSA at Pearson Airport Terminal 1 (assuming you are in GTA). I would assume the same would be possible elsewhere.

OK Thanks. Yes, I too heard about returning at Pearson. I am exploring that option too. Yes, I am in GTA. Hopefully that should work out...

THanks again.

Hi all - returned the I-94 today at Pearson. Went to Terminal 1 departures, but they directed me to T3 arrivals. Went to the CBSA counter and handed over to the CBSA officials. The way they spoke about I-94 looked like they were aware and are authorized to collect it. So, handed it over to them. Hopfully it should reach the right people on the other side. Will come to know only next time when we visit States. As a precautionary measure, I will take my payslips for past 3-4 months + phone bills, etc just to prove I indeed was in Canada all the time. Lets see....

That's odd. I don't know why they sent you to Terminal 3. I dropped off a friend's I-94 in Terminal 1 few months ago. They are doing some new construction/renovation to Terminal 3 though. May be they opened up a "new" office.

I asked the CBSA lady twice if I can get some kind of confirmation of drop off and she got mad wanting to return me the slip and told me to take it to the American customs myself if I did'nt trust her.

ya.. they get angry soon. All in all, i still feel its always better to return at the Land Border crossing at Niagara, etc. Better to be safe than sorry. Anyhow, our next visit to US is around Christmas 2016. Will come to know that time... fingers crossed till then.... !

No worries! It works just fine! Did it a few times and never got into trouble.

The officers at the border work hand in hand - no need to be suspicious. Why would CBSA keep the I-94? (604) 377-6917y have better things to do.

If you feel like you need to give it to the US guys yourself you have to get your passports ready in time. No passport, no border crossing.

That's not me but simple rules.

You'll be fine!
