anybody on this thread has invited their cuban in laws? experiences please

Yenny- I successfully invited my mother in law 2 months after my hubby got here because we had a wedding in Canada that we wanted her to be a part of..

Firstly, you will have to have your husband/wife invite her as you will not be able to prove enough income to successfully invite her.

The embassy asks for employment letters, T4's and other financial documents that prove you can financially support her.

You HAVE to have a valid reason for the invite.

Your mom needs to have money in the bank, or a job, or a house or any of the previous things combined - she will be denied if she cannot prove that she has reason to want to go back to Cuba.

the Temporary visa is process is simple, but not EASY. they make you jump through a lot of hoops to be approved.

But firstly, off the bat- you wont be able to do it yourself. you havn't been here enough time and you do not have any financial ability to support her while she is here.

let me know if you need more info- im in the process of inviting my father in law now!

thanks!

thank you , I already have a job here in Canada and my wife is a Public Notary, I have a good amount in my bank account here and so does my wife, she owns a home.

do you think its better to apply online or at the embassy? the difference that i see is that 95% of parents who apply at the embassy are approved, and when you apply online its cic who sees the app and not(the guys at the embassy)..

also since i dont have the actualy card yet,i thought that maybe sending the COPR and a copy of my passport with the visa would be enough i really want to bring my mother for xmas,,please advise me the best you can,,,

yenny, that's good it seems you are already doing very well - however, I still think its best that your wife invites your mother. put on the invite that he wants to you have your family near by for the holidays. he doesn't want you to be alone.

def. apply at the embassy - I only do it through the embassy, although they have been denying people vistors visas a lot lately... it doesn't hurt trying...

I know you have a job but the documents you need to submit to the embassy are things like T4'S and income letters... if you haven't been working a year yet then you wont have that - BUT your wife will!! she can do it...

trust me... its too soon for you, I did it for my husbands mom after not even 2 months and she was approved.

make sure the letter is nice and outlined, tell your wife to put lots of info on why its important that your mom be with you for the holidays!

you will have to submit an original and updated Police Certificate from Consultoría Jurídica Internacional legalized by MINREX the Interview day. Please note that the contract and the receipt provided by Consultoría Jurídica must also be attached.

What is the MINREX

No date yet other then we were told that he would get a call sometime the first of Dec for a date in January. I emailed them to ask about an extention on medical and Police certificate. It takes 45 days to get a new Police certificate. The second one he applied for at the Havana Police station he never picked up as yet but will will have most likely have expired although it is still there not sure they keep them until they are picked up or not.

Ok because i was also told we would be told by the end of November about our file. Last week it was waiting to be reviewed by an officer. It has been three weeks since his interview . We should know any day :) i just want my husband here by Christmas!!! Our file has beenin Havana for over a year :(

I see someone on here put the application in July 2015 and no interview and got visa this month. We are at 11 months in Havana.

Windsorgirl, when my MP contacted the embassy last week we got the same response as you. I am hoping for a call tomorrow or Monday. All the best!!! I can't wait for all of this to be over.

He lives in the province of Villa Clara. Thank you soooo much. We are so happy about it. Havana is definitely starting to pick up the pace!

Cassidy was your file only in Havana for two months?

Yeah it was. Honestly it was pure luck. We have no idea how it happened but it did!!

Not to take anything away from how lucky you were but it sure makes me wonder what the "H" is going on in Havana.

The one definite thing I've learned (through my experience, and those of others to which I've had intimate insight into) is that the deal breaker is the interview requisite. Once your request gets to Havana, and if it gets flagged for an interview, all bets are off, and the wait time increases exponentially.

Otherwise, all the applications that arrived in Havana in the spring of 2015 where the interview was waived (and I know of 4 others than mine) have been processed in under 4 months, with all but one being 3 months and under..

You can draw your own conclusions, but to me this hints at a deliberate attempt to prolong those "risk"(for lack of a better term) applications to the furthest extent possible. My casual conversations with an acquaintance that works for CIC here in Canada have also done nothing but further this belief.

But hang in there folks, I know it's not easy, but it's worth it in the end, trust me. Personally, today marks 3 months that my wife has been here, and it's been great, even the culture shock and adaptation process for her has been significantly smother than I envisioned.

This week we're off to Havana for some R&R, and I'm really looking forward to being able to go and enjoy myself without that dreaded feeling of knowing I'm gonna be leaving her behind in the back of my mind..
