Oh wow that is encouraging! Thank you! I helped my friend get her applicationg together. Do you have any tips for the application?
I completed the application myself,it wasn't really dificult for me since I knew everything about my husband his family and all, I did ask for help to make sure I had all the proper documents needed.I would just say to read carefully every question and just answer it with the truth lol and don't be hurry to finish it like I was, I missed one question about military service lol but thanks god application already in cuba and I guess they will have his military service info on the system

I hope so for you too Lia! It`s amazing! but not always easy... I think hubby had a pretty easy time adapting but not everything comes automatically... but I assume you know this since you were born in Cuba yourself! How long have you been here? :)

Your trip is coming up quickly. Have a wonderful time. :D Where is your love from in Cuba?
Hi there, he is from Pina which from my understanding is in Ciego de Avila. I just got back on the 25th from two wonderful weeks with him and I couldn't be happier. We have gone from boyfriend/girlfriend to getting married in October :D
Now I just don't know where to start. Can you actually start the process before you get married or do you have to wait until you are actually married. Because wouldn't we be considered conjugal at this point? I have no idea, all I know is I want to get this process going NOW..lol
How are things going with the appeal Double Rainbow?

Hi hi!!

Dbl-- get rid of that flu before being with hubby!! at least it was before and not during! It will make you feel better to be together and then you can come back and focus on the everlasting exhausting process.... blergh. Just keep smiling and all will work itself out!!

Hi Thomshel! Congrats on making the marriage plans!! Great news!! :) You cant be considered conjugal because the conjugal category is only for people who are in a situation that makes it impossible for them to get married. For example in the philippines (I believe) its impossible to get divorced, so someone who was previously married and separated wouldnt be able to remarry because of the lack of divorce certificate. Its the most difficult category to apply in. I would suggest getting all the papers ready. Get familiar with them, plan ahead, try to get the things that you are able to do done before that, You will also have some documents needed for the marriage, so the 5 months will fill up quick!! try to have everything done by september so when you go back, all that will be missing is your marriage certificate and signatures and dates. Plan to have the police check and medical check done as late as possible since they expire and you want them to be valid for as long as possible. All the best!! So exciting!!

Am I correct in that I have to have both my divorce decrees translated along with my birth certificate and a single status affidavit as I have been divorced longer than 2 years...and then on top of that I have to have something saying that the birth certificate and my divorce name are the same person...and then on TOP of that I have to pay another 600 and something dollars in Cuba to actually get married?...so in essence I am looking at almost $2000.00 just to get married..and that has nothing to do with the actual wedding..ugh...never ending with the money grab it seems

Hi

For the wedding you need:

You need birth certificate translated in Spanish
Your divorce certificate translated in Spanish
Single status affidavit translated in Spanish

You need to have all that authenticated in Ottawa

I think that your Single status affidavit is only valid for 6 months..

Then you'll need all that legalized by Cuban consulate ( cost 176$ per document )

Wedding in Cuba was 625 CUC for Notary + 105 CUC since the new law is in effect since January 14th 2013 there.

When you'll come back here, you need all documents that are in Spanish translated again in English or French.

then immigration is 1040$ Canadian + 266$ if you live in Quebec for CSQ

Cost is going up fast. I did my wedding in March and total with all documents translated, hotel, food, drinks,
taxis, I paid around 8450$. Better have a very good planning for everything !

All the best !

Also don't forget the exchange rate in Cuba. In March it was 0.90 CUC for 1$ canadian. So 625 CUC for notary + 105 CUC = 730 CUC that means around 820$ canadian...

exchange rate could be an important factor. Don't forget to think about that when planning your wedding !
