Hi,

Recently, I got my CoPR (Confirmation of Permenent Residence) and IM-1 VISA until Sep, 2018. Currently, I am in Canada with work visa until Feb 21, 2018. I made an appointment for validating my PR, they mentioned they will reach back to me 2 weeks and it will take 60 days to get the PR Card. So, the process takes more than 2 months, I have work visa only until Feb 21. Can I use my IM-1 visa to continue to reside in Canada until my PR card arrives? Or I have to go back to my country, come to Canada to validate my PR using CoPR? Please, advice.

Thank you,
Sam.

You can do landing at any US/CA border if you want instead of making a appointment. You are still considered a foreign worker until you do landing to become PR so if you let your work permit expire, you cannot work legally until you have a valid work permit or if you do landing and become a PR. Once you land, you can work for any employer and you can change your SIN to a permanent one just by using your COPR papers. You don't need your PR card to do that.

So, I can do the landing part by making an appointment with one of the offices in Canada before my work visa expires and change my SIN and continue to work?

You don't need a appointment if you want to land at the border. If you want to land at any immigration offices then yes you will have to make an appointment but typically it will take weeks to confirm your appointment.

Once you land, you can take your landing papers to any Service Canada and have them give you a new SIN and you can continue working.

Okay. Thank you for your information, much appreciated. Have a good day.
