Can I carry the new passport and pr card for travel or is there any other steps i need to follow?

1. No, CIC doesn't care that you have a new passport when you are already a PR.
2. That's it PR card, new passport.

This is accepting to re-enter Canada.
Travel to other counties is up to their requirement of the passport you have.
