hi guys. my husband has been packing, getting ready to move at the end of the month and we've ended up a little confused & with questions...

- how long is the "goods to follow" list valid for? he has things we would want to go back to get from his parent's house in a couple of years when we buy a house.
- if we have things we'd be going back for at different times, should those things be listed on separate "goods to follow" forms or is one form valid for any time we bring something across?
- if we list something as a good to follow but we never bring it across is that a problem?

we've been looking online but can't find these specific answers.
any help is appreciated :)

You must list everything for which you are claiming the exemptions, on a single, multiple page, list. You don't have a time limit on when the items ship but they must all be listed together. If items never arrive in Canada, it's not a problem.

that is not true. in my recent experience, CBSA wants to see 1 form for items bringing with you at time of landing AND 1 form for "goods to follow". I can't see how both list of items can't be on the same form, because each item can't be marked as a "good to follow", only the form can. it is way too confusing to write goods declared at landing on the same form as "goods to follow". CBSA wants them separated, it will make it easier for them when writing the receipt for declared items at landing. i am not sure if the forms are different than before, this is how it's now being done. i'm sure there are officers who don't care, i just don't see it being an easy process if everything is listed together.

1. there is no expiration date, he will be able to bring his items back whenever he wants, and not pay duty on them as long as he presents his B4 form when bringing them over.
2. yes, if you have items not being presented at landing, then make 2 lists, one to declare at landing AND 1 to follow. this is how i did my landing, and there were no issue with it. i would imagine there would be a delay/issue with listing everything on 1 form because each item can't be ticked as a "good to follow", only the form can, and it would be a nightmare (in my opinion), to sit there and explain to the officer which item is "to follow" and what the total value will be.
3. no. CBSA doesn't care.

The OP made it very clear that the query was in relation to "Goods to follow".
Therefore, my response was totally focused on this, not "Goods accompanying".

thanks to both of you! :) to clarify i know we are making a "goods accompanying" list and a "goods to follow" list. my question was specifically about the goods to follow list and if we could use it multiple times on different occasions - if my husband has things he would going back for at different times (some things we don't have room for right now. some things we might realize we need after deciding not to put it as accompanying etc) - zardoz seems to be saying that won't be an issue? my husband is getting a little anxious and over thinking. he wanted to call cbsa about these ?s but i thought i could ease his mind by asking here instead.

God willing, I'll be landing soon so one last question, is there a specific B4 form I have to download and print out and if so, where is it? Or can I just type one up myself and print it out? Thanks in advance. Also, I really don't have much I'm bringing in with me when I land, mostly clothes which I've had here from visits so most I'm bringing later as it's big and furniture stuff sitting at my parents'. Some hand built by my father so I have no idea how to really put a value on it.

just put everything on one list. he will use that list and the receipt every time he wants to bring something back. there is no limit to the number of times he can do this and there is no time constraints on bringing everything over.

if you're not bringing a lot of personal items with you, then it will only be necessary to fill out 1 B4 form as a "goods to follow" form. as for the furniture, just assign a value. ask your dad how much he would sell it for, and put that. as long as it's not an astronomical number, it won't matter.

No, it's not fancy probably $50 max. But mostly other than that, I'm sending up clothes later as most of the personal items like furniture and household stuff, my husband had so I'm not bringing them. Just those two big ones. And maybe some small keepsakes (i.e stuffed animals and souvenirs from trips, none of which I have receipts for. Will it look weird if I don't bring a ton of stuff with me or don't intend to later?
