Hi
I am an Indian (Asian) student in US , and getting married to a girl who is permanent resident of Canada. I have following questions. I would appreciate if some once could reply me.

1. can i get marriage certificate immediately so that I could go ahead for sponsorship application? how long does it take to get marriage certificate?

2. Do I have to get police certificate from my original country or from US? i am not US citizen , though living in US since 2.5 years.

3. My fiancee was previously employed but not now, so she takes financial help from Canadian government? can she sponsor me ?

4. My uncle is also citizen of canada and he is lawyer , so should I ask my uncle , instead of my fiancee, to sponsor me?

I can answer a couple of your questions.

The marriage certificate doesnt take very long to get. I know that if you marry in canada you can get a copy of the cerificate with vital statics and you can get it the same day. I think you might have to wait a couple of weeks after your marriage to get it, But I am sure that depends on the city. I dont live in a big city so its easier here on the east coast of canada not so populated.

the second thing. IF your future wife is not working and on social assistance from the government, I beleive she can not sponsor you. SHe has to be having a job. There is no requirement for the amount she has to make but just has to have a job and be working. If she is getting social assistance from the government I believe all that all has to be paid back to the governement before she can sponsor you and needs to have a job also. if your uncle sponsors you it will take longer for the process.

I am pretty sure of this but if I am wrong about it hopefully someone will correct me.

boyee6576 explained for the questions.

My opinion also:

If you will get married in Canada:

You must have a marriage certificate issued by the province or territory where the marriage took place

Your sponsor (wife ) may not be eligible to be a sponsor if she:
received government financial assistance for reasons other than a disability.

Can be other's opinions too.

Point of Correct...Employment Insurance (EI) is different from Welfare. If she is on EI, she can sponsor him. If she is on Social Welfare, she cannot.

and if she is on welfare, i don't think she needs to pay it back to sponsor you, just get a job and not be on welfare (not sure if there is a minimum time she must hold the job?) ... i believe she only needs to pay back any welfare you may try to collect during her 3 year commitment and any welfare and previous sponsorship takings might have collected (if applicable)...

In Ontario it takes 6 weeks to get marriage certificate.
2. Do I have to get police certificate from my original country or from US? i am not US citizen , though living in US since 2.5 years.
every country u lived more than 6 months in and since 18 years old.

all i can say if she not working she still can sponsor u as long as she doesnt get social welfare.

"Who can be sponsored

* parents
* grandparents
* brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-law relationship
* another relative of any age or relationship but only under specific conditions (see Note below)
* accompanying relatives of the above (for example, spouse, partner and dependent children).
