Hey there,

I just have a quick general question. I will be applying again for my Canadian Experience Class this Thursday and send in all my documents. I currently have a positive LMO and work for a tech company and my work permit expires in May 2014.

However there have been recent lay offs in our company because its going through some restructuring which is making me very worried. If in case I do get laid off what options do I have if I have already sent my application for the canadian experience class. I know that I can stay here till my work permit expires but how will go about surviving without a job? Its almost close to impossible for companies to Issue LMO's. I got lucky with my LMO because i was on a Post grad work permit where my company helped me with the transition.

Wouldn't it make more sense for people who are applying under the CEC to be given an open work permit?

You will get open work permit, once you get AOR for your CEC application

Wait will i get an open work permit or will i be egligble for an Open work permit and can apply for one? This is music to my ears.

On the website however it says that my existing wp has to expire within 4 months though, mine expires in may 2014?

This is MUSIC to my ears as well. Im waiting to hear more info on this one.

I had an LMO based job but was laid off in Sep 2012. Now im sitting uselessly at home with no job and i've tried innumerous times for a job but nobody wants to issue an LMO.
I hope we are eligible for the Bridge Work Permit or else we are totally dead vegetables who cannot do a thing unless we get our PR under CEC.
I will be applying for CEC by next week.

Any expert on here with some good advise for us .... Pls reach out to us ... we are sitting on a sinking boat right now

Thanks a million

Just one more point.
My work permit also expires in 2014.
Plssss save us Oh Canada

You must meet the 4 month requirement to qualify for an open work permit.

Unfortunately, the bridging open work permit is only for those whose work permits will expire within 4 months. So, no, you wouldn't be able to apply.

Thanks for clarifying Jes.

That kinda sucks I would think Logically it makes more sense for people who have AOR's to be issued an open work permit no?

Ah, well, the intent was to help those with expiring work permits, so that was how it was written.

But I don't disagree with you. Who would have thought that getting a 2-year work permit would turn out to be worse than getting a one-year work permit? I don't think that was the intent either.

All I can say is, CIC seems to be fairly responsive to feedback, so, do let them know. Any future changes will probably be too late to help YOU, but you might help others...
