HI,

I recently came acrodd this forum and found it really good.
There are some people doing really good work here by helping each other and freshers like me .

I am planning to apply to canada under FSW category:

1) There is no "surname"/"family name" written in my passport.
I do not use my family name and its not present in any of my official documents.
Will writing a N/A in family name column cause any problem?
Other thing is that my parents use family name and my sister too has got it added to her passport later on.Hope this will not cause a problem for me when I mention their names in the forms

2) Second option that i can go for is get the name changed on the passport.
But I am going for F-2 visa interview( dependent of F-1, student) next week.
So i am running out of time. In case I get the visa and if I change my name after that, again there will be issues for the visa granted.

Please help me with these queries.

Hello,

I had the same issue and it was not considered a problem by the Canadian authorities (I cleared the first stage). However, I've heard that US authorities are rather picky about it. They might tell you during the interview time about this. Do post here how it goes.

So why dont you have a surname? Thats very strange. Get married and then you'll have a surname. Life without a surname can be tough!

Dear experts/seniors
I applied for faster program(0213) on first week of March,2009 and got my AOR on 16th of April.I am working in a company where the designation that declared by CIC website are not available(Like..computer systems manager...etc.)I am working as an Asst. Manager and my job profile are allmost same(90%matched) as like as the requirement. Now its the time to submit the experience/reference letter. From my boss, what type of designation I asked for to write on experience certificate? If I gave the Asst. Manager as a designation, will it be a problem?I joined at the company on 2005 as a Senior officer and I promoted as Asst. Manager on January,2009.Now if I submit my original appointment letter where I appointed as a senior officer and then submit the Reference letter that will show me as Asst. Manager.......what will be the problem?
I can manage my boss to write an experience letter for me as Computer Systems Manager, but I think its not authentic. But if there is no any other option, then I have to manage my boss.Another thing that I am in this company for last 4yrs and 8 months but I worked here as Senior officer for last 4 yrs and 2 months and as Asst.Manager for last 6 months only.
Experts,please help me.

Thanks

Hi Simm44,
No Surname is not a problem.
I have no surname on my passport and I had no problems anywhere even with the US visa.

Dear Charmeuse and DrCool

As I understand from your replies do I assume that if a person does not change her surname after marriage (i.e. does not add her husband's surname) there is no problem with the PR file at CHC, New Delhi. In this case the husband and wife having different surnames and the wife retains her maiden surname.

Your response is much appreciated.

Regards.

Hi Singh123,

No problem at all.
The husband and wife should make sure that they insert the spouse names in each other's passport.
I think this procedure take couple of days. You have to fill in a form at PP office for spouse name insersion and attach the marriage certificate with the form.

I hope this clear's the doubt.

Thanks a lot drcool for your reply.

I have got an F-2 US visa stamped this week. There was no issue at all.
But I and my husband do not have the spouse name added to the passport.
Will that cause any issue in case I apply for canadian PR?

I guess changes made to the passsport after getting the visa stamped can cause issues.

Also, since my husband would be going for his masters in the US, should I apply for him also at the same time.
Or, would it be better that I apply for myself(PR) only an later on apply for him?
