I am a trans man and need to change my full name ASAP. I was sponsored by my husband and we applied under my birth name. I received CoPR at the end of December. We plan to move me to Ontario at the end of may. I thought I would land with my birth name, get PR card, SIN and then immediately after receiving these I would change my name. However, I have read that in Ontario you can not legally change your name unless you have been a resident there for 12 months. Is this true, even for those sponsored? I can not wait this long to change my name but I haven't a clue what to do. Should I change it now while I'm still in the US, will they change it sooner if it was changed in my country of origin?
