India is a fascinating country. What language do you use as a communication medium when you travel to states where they speak languages you are not familiar with? English or Hindi?
Frankly, except in southern states, most can speak/converse in Hindi. Correct me if I am wrong. Because even as an Indian, that's what I believe is true. South Indians don't have a common language but they speak English. It's a crazy world in India. Not an easy place to rule but a great place to have been born in. Because you will grow in a multi-cultural world.

Most of South Indians can understand Hindi and alot of them can speak as well but we don't like to converse in Hindi for some reason.

Depends. If you stick of the metros, right. Go to tier-2 cities and it becomes an issue pretty fast. When I was in Hyderabad, English, Hindi and "Naku Teliyadu" was enough. I went to Vijaywada and fun starts.

We adopted English as most commonly used language whether you agree or not.
"We" as in government not as in most of the people.
